This is my first blog post, written by as much of a blogging virgin as you could ever dream to encounter in this day and age of ubiquitous travel blogs, Top Ten lists, and Pinterest. To top it off, this is RH Travel Design’s Blog Post #1, The Beginning, Numero Uno! And all I have in front of me is a white screen and an open notebook that are both intimidatingly blank.
I know essays and stories, not blogs. For crying out loud, I can write a thesis paper in a foreign language, but a blog? Yikes! When I think of writing a Top 10 list for a blog post, this is what comes to mind:
#1 – Thesis
#2-9 – Supporting Paragraphs
#10 – Conclusion
But I don’t have enough space for all that and you certainly don’t have enough time, so let’s just go with a word. Just a word. And how about we go with the one most often used for new projects, products, campaigns, careers, and yes, even travel adventures.
Launch.
The launch. Close cousin of the rollout.
They say timing is everything. If only I could have launched a month earlier, it would have been perfectly dazzling with lots of champagne and fun parties. But that is all showmanship. At the end of the day, timing is a state of mind. The word launch is simply the beginning of something new, an exciting point of departure to new destinations just over the horizon. In my opinion the act of starting an incredible story and being the author of your own beginning is an adventure in and of itself - amazing and awe inspiring enough all on its own without the need for champagne toasts.
Launch journeyed across the Channel from Old French to English courtesy of William the Conqueror. Originally, its precise meaning was in fact to begin a journey, specifically one in a boat, and what a perfectly fitting way for such a word to arrive into our lexicon.
Like many journeys, the hardest part is deciding to get going. For me, RH Travel Design represents an extraordinary opportunity to merge my skills, years of professional advisory experience, and life-long love of travel. It is that elusive magic that happens when one day you realize that your passions and your talents don’t have to be mutually exclusive.
Our mission at RH Travel Design is to inspire people to once again become grand storytellers and conversationalists and remember our words through travel. We hope to encourage you to reconnect with the world and with each other. I hope to provide you with every opportunity to discover something outside your comfort zone, to learn something new because there is STILL so much to discover, and you are never too old to be curious about the world or too young to start.
This is what we do because this is what I believe. There is always something new to learn, and sometimes the further we travel, the closer to home we find ourselves.
This is our thesis statement.
Be the beginning.
Write your story.
Launch.
